The fascination of flying – soaring weightless through the air
Every year in the early summer the Venosta Valley attracts countless paragliding enthusiasts. Paragliding offers the perfect opportunity to discover the Venosta area and its mountains from a totally new perspective. You can even cross the entire Upper Venosta Valley from the Sesvenna Range to the Ortler Range and all the way to the Ötztal Alps and savour the breathtaking views of mountain peaks, meadows and villages all the way.
The best time for paragliding is during the dry days of spring when there are no northern winds, low to moderate condensation and high cloud base. If you have no experience but would nonetheless like to take in the fantastic panorama, then you can book a tandem flight and put yourself in the safe hands of an experienced professional pilot.
An ideal starting point is the Watles mountain above the village of Burgeis (1,750 m). A further one is situated somewhat higher at an elevation of 2,220 m and can be reached using the chairlift followed by a 20-minute walk. Both starting points, however, are not suitable if northerly winds are blowing. Should that be the case, then there are alternative starting points in Schluderns and in Sulden in the Ortler region. An ideal landing spot can be found in Schleis (1,060 m) right next to the road and just 1 km from the campsite.
