The South-Tyrolean cultural region
The Venosta Valley (german: Vinschgau) is a valley of fascinating contrasts – the highest peaks in South Tyrol, the steppe-like slopes of the Sonnenberg mountain and lush, green meadows down in the valley. Situated in the west of South Tyrol, the valley stretches all the way from the Resia Pass in the north to Naturno near Merano.
Owing to its inner alpine location, the area receives very little rain – a fact that can immediately be seen in the landscape. Plant species characteristic of the Mediterranean flourish here, a flora that is usually only found in areas much further south.
Just as varied as the landscape are the cultural highlights on offer in the Venosta Valley. Even far beyond the borders of South Tyrol the valley is famous, above all, for its apples, the Ortler mountain, at a height of 3,905 m South Tyrol’s highest mountain, its apricots, the bell tower in the lake Resia and Lasa marble.
From hiking along the centuries-old “Waalwege” irrigation channels, to mountain biking along the countless mountain tracks, to leisurely walks along the Venosta valley cycle path – the area offers almost limitless opportunities for you to enjoy a memorable camping holiday in the Venosta Valley.
